The transfer of MiG-29 fighter jets from Poland to Ukraine remains without a confirmed completion date.

Although Warsaw has expressed interest in donating its remaining aircraft, the Polish government has conditioned the delivery on the signing of an agreement that guarantees access to drone technologies developed by Ukraine during its conflict with Russia.

According to Polish officials, military cooperation between the two countries should provide benefits for both sides. As a result, obtaining knowledge and technologies related to unmanned aerial vehicles has become a requirement for the transfer of the fighter jets. Negotiations are still ongoing, but there is no confirmation yet on when the agreement will be finalized.

Poland has previously supplied 14 MiG-29s to Ukraine and is now considering transferring between six and eight aircraft from a remaining fleet of 14 units. The country believes that the arrival of new F-35A and FA-50PL fighter jets will allow it to retire the MiG-29s without compromising operational capabilities. For Kyiv, the aircraft represent an immediate solution, as pilots and maintenance crews already have experience operating and supporting the platform.

Poland’s interest in Ukrainian technology reflects the growing importance of drones in modern conflicts. Since the beginning of the war, Ukraine has developed reconnaissance, strike, and interception systems that have gained international attention. In addition, the country has accumulated valuable expertise in electronic warfare and unmanned systems operations, making it an important global reference in this field.
